Fachada / Front
Integrating a previous fortified tower possibly dating from the 14th century, the foundation of this Franciscan male convent began with the donation, in 1525, of the surrounding lands, by D. Francisco Coutinho, Count of Marialva.
Of Manueline design, of which the church's portico survives, it is also worth noting the construction of the cloister, which is now destroyed, corresponding to the first half of the 16th century, the period in which the church and convent complex were built.
The Space
Recently refurbished space with good access and parking.
Inside, there is no dampness and the space has good insulation, including double-glazed windows.
The space has an interpretive centre with security, an important element in assuring access to the space and to the toilet. There are also some storage spaces and furniture available for use (chairs, etc).
Strong points
-
Ample parking space.
-
Access ramp.
-
Good natural light.
-
Access to the lighting control panel
-
Staff was very accessible and friendly.
Weak points
-
Some of the lights made a noise.
-
Noise from the museum ventilation system was audible in the church (although it is possible to switch it off).
-
Church entrance floor was too uneven for wheeled load movers.

The Sound
The recordings were all made using the same methodology, keeping the same distances between performers and using the same recording technique (AB Omni 40cm spacing)
Spacious area with various layout possibilities for recording and performance. The chapel is of generous size, making it possible to be used as a recording room directly connected to a reverberation chamber (the nave).
The space has a very pleasant acoustic response, with a special emphasis on the bass, which is present at various pitches despite the size of the space.
The ensemble's sound image is particularly evident in the space, which facilitates sound separation.
Strong points
-
Balanced overall response particularly good in the bass.
-
Good insulation from external noise.
-
Various spaces available in order to obtain different results
Weak points
-
Control room far from performance space.
-
The centre arch is a little tight for a space this size, which strangles some of the layout possibilities.
